A "rock crystal", in reference to the surrounding mountains connects the 3 different parts of the school building to the schoolyard. A square located in the center, is used as a distributor. with one part allocated in the school yard, another the other to the adjunct urban public space. The rock crystal contains functions for all parts of the school, but can also be rented out for various purposes.
The little additional buildable area was fully optimized and designed for the needs of the physically disabled. The different parts of the existing building remain functionally separate. The two austere buildings of the elementary school, will undergo a cost efficient renovation using a facing formwork out of fiber cement-panels. Other parts of the school buildings will be heightened or extended and the entire complex will be made more energy efficient with an insulation upgrade, resulting in a Monolith.
The "rock crystal" is shaped by the steel frame, which is covered with glass elements and aluminum plates. It crystallizes out of a small gap between the two primary schools and is an ornament compared to the austere school buildings.
Step by step realization is possible, without interrupting the school schedule, the use of temporary pavilions. Various parts of the building receive a green roof to prevent overheating in the summer, exterior insulation will be installed in the stock buildings. Wood- and aluminum windows will be used as well as a mechanical ventilation system for the classrooms with heat recovery.
